What is HTMA?
HTMA (hair tissue mineral analysis) is a functional lab test that uses a small amount of hair to measure the nutrient and toxic mineral levels in your hair. Minerals tell us A LOT about your health. Think of minerals like spark plugs, helping our body build and activate enzymes, absorb and assimilate vitamins, and so much more. Our bodies require optimal mineral balance for healthy hormones, pain-free cycles, fertility, detoxification, thyroid health, efficient digestion, healthy blood pressure, and balanced blood sugar. They make up 5% of the human body by weight and exist in a critical synergistic balance - no one mineral functions alone. Unfortunately, many of us have an extremely depleted and imbalanced mineral status due to stress, restrictive or imbalanced diets, supplements, medications, inefficient digestion, water filters, and more. So if you’re tired, always cold, with painful periods, and suffering digestion, I want you to think minerals…they’re foundational and a wonderful place to start.
HTMA is easily one of the most valuable screening tools available in preventative health care, giving us a picture of our mineral and metabolic status over the last 3-4 months. It’s also one of the more affordable labs, making it even more attractive! Here are some things we can learn from your HTMA results:
Your metabolic type
Nervous system state
Stage of stress (alarm, resistance, exhaustion/burnout)
Glandular activity (particularly the adrenal and thyroid)
Energy production
Digestive function
Blood sugar regulation & carb tolerance
Liver/detox function
Oxidative stress and inflammation
Heavy metal presence
HTMA measures the levels of various minerals such as calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium, zinc, copper, iron, and others. By comparing these levels to established reference ranges or ideal ratios, we can identify potential areas of concern and develop personalized strategies for addressing your particular concerns. As the nutrient mineral system is restored to better balance, the neuron-endocrine system becomes more resilient and self-regulated, allowing for a more vibrant, energized, and thriving YOU!
HTMA is for everyone, but I do especially recommend it if you are…
On birth control or recently off
Looking to conceive in the near future
Pregnant or postpartum
Going through perimenopause or menopause
By evaluating and optimizing your mineral status, you can walk through each of these stages with greater confidence, knowing that your specific protocol is addressing your unique imbalances and deficiencies.
